Last week, G and I found ourselves with an afternoon free and decided to explore one of the most convenient beaches to our place - Maroubra Beach.
Maroubra has a very different feel from the bustling vibe of Bondi. Although similarly set in a bay, it feels much more relaxed -- or so it seemed on a weekday afternoon. There is a commercial strip, but it is much smaller. This seems more the beach to come to if you want to have a picnic and chill out with friends. There is a long, relaxed stretch of sand populated with surfers -- this definitely seems to be a surfer's beach. On the southern edge of the beach is the Arthur Byrne Reserve. There is a skate park followed by a large park area with wide expanses of green perfect for frisbee games and lots of grills on which to BBQ.
There are several hiking and walking trails to take. On this visit we decided to explore the southern edge, as we were once again seduced by the beautiful rocky coastline. G's desire to get the perfect shot lead us to navigate some slightly precarious edges , but the views were definitely worth it.
You can't tell here, but that's about a 2 foot ledge I'm standing on. It wasn't really that big a drop -- I am after all a chicken where heights are concerned -- but it's enough that I'm sticking to that wall as closely as I possibly can!
Check out G's slideshow for gorgeous images of the rocks:
